Spiritual dimensions & the washing up!

What are the spiritual dimensions of humanity ?

I have been asked a few times. Well what do you mean by this?

To me it means everything, our whole life.
I believe that in my life there is no seperation between my work, my home life, my studies and doing the house work. They are all part of my spiritual practice. I am not some one who can sit and meditate for an hour every morning, or do a religious yoga practice. I dance, but not every day (although I did once).
But hats off to those who do have that discipline,
I think my only really regular discipline is to brush my teeth every day and drink a lot of roobosh tea. :-)

So when I talk about the spiritual dimensions of humanity I am speaking about our wholeness being connected to spirit. Every action, is a movement of our soul, no matter what we are doing. The ego is part of that, it is the part of us that acts out, that holds us and moves us through what we need to become or do. Preparing us for the true soul, our true self to emerge when the time is right.

So whatever we are doing we need to know that it is a spiritual act, even the more negative things because they teach us, probably more about ourselves than anything else.
And in our meetings with others, there is guidance, a teaching, something to learn.

Paying attention, asking for guidance, listening, finding an emptiness, a calm serenity, even when we are doing the washing up. Thats my practice.
When the shit hits the fan and life feels unbearable, when there is trauma, disapointment anger sadness fear, can we be with that and not shrink away, pretend its not there or hide from our innermost feelings? Can we say thank you for this because we trust it is necessary for own personal growth?
Because behind each dark emotion there is a lightness that wants to pour through.

When we fall in love and life is as beautiful as it could possibly be, do we remember to say thank you then also?

One of my favourite teachers Caroline Myss says ‘it is not about being grateful when the feast is on the table but when the table is empty, can we be grateful then? That is what is important.’

As I type this letter to you, am I following my spiritual practice by opening my heart to you and sharing my life experience. I love to write.
Life hasnt always been easy but its always been perfect. I believe that sometimes our spiritual practice is about endurance, The long silences, when we feel we have no guidance, alone and nothing is happening, those times in my life I pray and listen more than ever, Without trying to fill the gaps in avoidance of pain.

So enjoy the washing up today, the long drive to work, the loneliness and heartbreaks. Because something truly wonderful is beyond that gateway beyond the struggle. Life is an amazing gift! I believe that living our life with grace is our spiritual practice. And whatever helps along the way.

If I am asked what my spiritual practice is, I would say it is to say thankyou for everything, everyday.

C x
