Caroline's Story
When I was four years old I wore a white tutu and pink satin ballet shoes, when I was a teenager I danced to rock and roll down at the local youth club. For the rest of the time I danced to my 45-rpm record player in my bedroom late at night or early in the morning.
As a family we lived in the grounds of a derelict stately home that was my adventure play ground, and the castle of my dreams. I rode horses and had numerous pets that I spent more time with than anything else. I was born in the Midlands in 1960 and lived then in the beautiful English countryside. Most of my education was in a catholic convent, until it was suggested I leave and attended the local high school in Martley.
It was not a terribly easy childhood, it had its 'issues' there was sexual abuse. But my escape was into nature, with animals and my writing, my poetry and of course my dance.
Moving On
I became a teenage Mum at 16 and ended up living in the suburbs of Kirkby in Liverpool. The complete opposite to my previous rural existence, I had to face many struggles that life gave to me, I was never able to finish my education and so spent most of my young adult life caring for my children and invalid husband at that time. Two children at 19, I learnt much and often the hard way. Life was tough.
I worked part time taking care of the elderly and also took a diploma as a herbalist. I was always fascinated with healing. Amidst the rearing of my little ones I managed to create a small business as a healer and herbalist creating ‘Natural Care’ products. Funny the saga we had with pots of herbal preparations and little fingers that tried to dip in and out.
But despite my struggles I always found moments to dance anywhere I possibly could, even in my mind!
Dance was and is my freedom, my prayer and my sanctuary; it is where I connect more deeply with myself than at any other moment. It is where I am inspired, where I create and where I constantly long to return too.
I left the Uk to live in Ireland with five children and an old bus, two dogs and a cat. My youngest daughter was born there making six children. I found a dance class/practice when my baby was 9 months old, 17 years ago. It was hard to separate myself from motherhood and daily duties but I religiously went to my weekly classes exploring my own healing and the work I needed to do for myself. After two years I knew I had to share this work with others and become a teacher so I began traveling and training with Gabrielle Roth in America.. It was against all the odds, by this time a single Mum on welfare, having broken free from an unhealthy and very difficult relationship.
This work was completely changing my life. I know now anything is possible no matter what your situation. The training took me to New York and California, many parts of the UK.
I have spent many years on the dance floor, as a student and a teacher.
After a lifetime fascination with nature, dreams, journeying and spirituality, I began to include traditional techniques into my work. I trained with Simon Buxton of the Sacred Trust and discovered that so much of my life had already been a shamanic practice, this was deeply confirming for me.
In the last five years, after meeting with an nlp practitioner, that I worked on myself with, I was hugely inspired. I went on to study and train in NLP (neuro linguistic programming) with Dr Richard Bandler. Co-Creator of NLP
I realized so much of my own teachings incorporated this, especially in the desire to help other people find their potential or to help them to follow their dreams without limitations, as well as give attention to any difficulties people have and overcoming them. It is a big desire of mine.
I am now a Master NLP Practitioner.
With the help of a wonderful coach Brigitte Sumner from Eastbourne, Uk I managed to set some goals that were almost unimaginable and completed all of them with her guidance.
I love my work and I love to dance. It has led me from the dance floor into film and theatre, to traveling to many countries, into writing my story, and to meeting different people from all walks of life. It has helped me to heal and continue to heal my life despite the struggles I have faced.
I have three gorgeous sons, three beautiful daughters and three grandchildren. I'm a very proud Mum and Granny. Life isn't always easy but as long as I can dance I have a limitless resource of creativity to support me. My own dance is an on-going exploration of my body, my soul and my ever changing and expanding personal growth.
My children are nearly all grown up now and living interesting lives of their own, musicians and singers, a builder and DJ, a trainee chef, a surfer/sailor, a hairdresser, they have done well. So I am happily bringing my own teachings into the world more and more. After 17 years I have returned to England to be near my family and my partner Ben Cole who is a cinematographer. We met on a journey to be with the Kogi people from the Sierra Nevada and began a very beautiful and healing relationship together. It made a very happy ending to my book Ms'Guided Angel
I have written my first book about the journey of child hood sexual abuse, teenage motherhood, rearing a family, being a dancer, becoming a teacher and falling in love. I look forward to sharing it with you.

"Caroline Carey is a shamanic healer and teacher, who has dived deeply into the rich dark roots of the shamanic path and danced within its primal landscapes. I am very pleased that she has now chosen to share her skills in accessing the ecstatic abandonment that shamanism brings for healing and transformation: you are in good hands." Family
When Caroline teaches a Movement class it is not called ‘alchemy’ for nothing, and for this reason it is peculiarly difficult to describe what exactly it is that she does.
As a trained teacher I would normally shudder at the thought of someone going into a class with only a vague notion of what they were actually going to teach, but in the case of Caroline, the fact that she doesn’t ‘plan’ her classes or workshops is part of the very magic of what happens in those spaces held by her….Make no mistake, Caroline knows exactly what she is doing with or without a structured plan. It’s putting into words what happens for the participant that is the tricky bit. Caroline has years of experience, and training, as a movement teacher, but her intuition is perhaps her greatest asset. (How can one plan a session when one has no idea what energy one will meet with when one walks into the space?) Caroline truly listens to what she hears and responds to what she meets when she walks into a teaching space. She simultaneously follows and guides her student dancers, using all her tools as an excellent DJ, and the wide ranging knowledge and vision she has as an ethereal crone and movement ‘passionata’. Her ‘other-world-ly-ness’ serves her superbly in supporting students to journey deep inside their own psyches and far away into the larger spiritual realms, whilst calling this consciousness back into and out through the expressive moving body. I have never seen anyone navigate chaos with as much grace, courage and tenacity as this woman, her broad feet rooted deeply in the earth whilst her heart seemingly stretches beyond any star visible to you or I. She is capable of bridging the extreme gaps between the territory of the soul and the world of flesh and bones; of transiting the gateways between birth and death, this world and the next.
I have danced with Caroline for eight years. There is no one I would trust more to hold me in my dancing journey or to guide me through life’s transitions. Caroline is a rare breed of movement teacher of the most intuitive kind. She is a gifted gatekeeper. Sally Elsbury Mask maker, dancer, actress, mother, drama teacher, friend (not necessarily in that order!)
"Caroline's work is crafted just as much from her own experience of life as it is from the many years of study she has undertaken. I have seen her emerge and take her place in the circle of teachers who are committed to excellence, ongoing learning and the delicate balance of personal power and humility which is a foundation for good study. She is delightfully creative and the deep roots that she has developed through maintaining her equilibrium in life's storms as well as her sense of humour means she can hold the space for you to take your journey, safely, deeply and truthfully. Be warned, the love she feels for the dance and for life are highly infectious."Ya'Acov Darling Khan. School of Movement Medicine.
Caroline creates a safe, beautiful and inviting space to explore whatever it is that comes up in people. She intuitively guides and entices feelings to the fore that need to be expressed, dealt with and transformed. Caroline has a masterful way with people that provides a platform for her students and clients to connect with their true feelings. This enables them to be in the present and live their lives fully.- Brigitte Sumner-author, coach, speaker.
